Dominik Szoboszlai has been linked with Real Madrid again, and as usual the rumours have grown quickly once form, reputation, and a big name club collide in the same week.
The spark this time came from Hungary coach Marco Rossi, who suggested Madrid could be a long term ambition for the 25 year old. That was enough to push the story back into the spotlight.
Szoboszlai’s agent Matyas Esterhazy moved fast to cool it down. He said it is “completely normal” for people to speculate when a player is performing at a high level, but made it clear that, from their side, it is not a topic right now.
His main point was timing. It is mid season, Liverpool are still fighting across the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League, and he argued that talking about summer plans at this stage is not correct.
Esterhazy also leaned into the core argument Liverpool want fans to hear. Liverpool are already one of the biggest clubs in the world, and Szoboszlai has a strong role in the squad, so there is no active search for something “higher” or elsewhere.
That fits with the wider message around Anfield that the club are not in the mood to sell key pieces. Szoboszlai has been one of the few consistent leaders in a season where form has fluctuated, and he has even covered at right back when injuries forced Liverpool to improvise.
There is also a contract angle that makes the Madrid talk feel premature. His current deal already runs until 2028, and there is a growing belief that Liverpool want to reward his influence with improved terms rather than entertain outside approaches.
Real Madrid will always be part of the rumour cycle for top performers, but right now Liverpool’s stance looks simple. Focus on the run in, keep the player central to the project, and push contract discussions forward instead of letting transfer headlines drive the story.
