Arne Slot has revealed that Florian Wirtz picked up an injury during the pre-match warm-up ahead of Liverpool’s narrow 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest. The issue occurred just moments before kick-off, forcing a late change to the lineup.

Wirtz had originally been included in Liverpool’s starting XI for the clash at the City Ground. However, after feeling discomfort while preparing for the match, he was unable to continue and had to be withdrawn. Curtis Jones stepped in to replace him in the starting side at short notice.

The German midfielder appeared visibly frustrated as he spoke with members of the Liverpool coaching staff, even shaking his head before making his way down the tunnel. Despite the setback, he later returned to the sidelines and watched the remainder of the match from behind the dugout.

Providing an update after the final whistle, Slot explained to Sky Sports that Wirtz attempted to push through the issue in the warm-up but ultimately could not participate. He added that the positive aspect is the upcoming week-long gap before their next fixture, giving the player time to recover.

Slot was also questioned about whether the team had become overly dependent on their summer signing in the build-up to facing Forest. The Dutch coach dismissed that idea, stressing that Liverpool cannot rely on just one individual and pointing out that injuries have disrupted their squad throughout the season.

In the end, Liverpool secured all three points thanks to a late strike from Alexis Mac Allister. Pundit Jamie Carragher described the outcome as one of the biggest “robberies” in the league this season. The result sees Liverpool draw level on points with both Chelsea F.C. and Manchester United F.C. as the race for a Champions League spot intensifies.
